Lighting Heroes 30. Simon Fisher

We are smiling as we write this week’s Lighting Hero tribute, for today’s hero is a top, top bloke, a gem, a great friend of ours who oozes knowledge, passion for light and ability, there will be no arguments from the lighting community as our lighting hero is lighting product designer extraordinaire Simon Fisher FSLL.
If you do not know Simon, then we are sure that you would at some point held his work in your hands for he has designed lighting products for many major lighting manufacturers, he is an absolute champion of the circular economy and responsible, reusable and sustainable lighting manufacture and we know his technical nous having seen him make robust and sturdy luminaire suspensions on a large custom luminaire, appear delicate and almost filigree in appearance.
Like most product designers he is the man in the shadows, a man whose work we know and love, often without the awareness of the maestro’s touch, the mind, hand and eye of the creator.
Simon pays back and supports our industry, we know him to freely offer support and advice to all in lighting, he is a Fellow of The SLL – Society of Light and Lighting, he is affable, cheerful, approachable with a huge smile and a great sense of humour, seriously, it would be hard to find a nicer person in lighting.
Aside from this, we follow him on Instagram so we know, he is a great and loving father, a keen cyclist who regularly takes on huge cycling missions for charity (for example, Lands End to John O’Groats in the UK, the whole length) and is a true and loyal friend, he has a big heart.
We have known him more years than we care to mention and alas only bump into him occasionally at an airport, trade show or awards dinner, we are proud to call him a friend and know that we can pick his brains when we need, one day we will find ourselves in the same town to get the curry we have been promising ourselves together, soon hopefully.
Simon Fisher you are the truest of Lighting Heroes and we salute and applaud you!
