Anyone that has witnessed phosphorescence, the natural bio-luminescence of sea organisms will testify that there is no more inspiring sight, like a most natural phenomenon, when seen it has the ability to make you feel good down to your toes, alive and connected with the universe and all things living.
We are very fortunate through our experiences as both ocean sailors and scuba divers to have experienced this natural beauty first hand and up close, the joy of night sailing with a glowing blue bow wave and wake, seeing dolphins and other large sea mammals lighting the night air blue as they swim through the photo-plankton and catching sight of bio-luminescent jellyfish and you know by now that we do love a jellyfish!
We know of bio-designers that are looking at the power of photo-plankton to provide useful light for day-to-day usage, we can’t imagine this being enough light to light a room, but a useful source to delineate pathways and for mood lighting, organic lava lamps!
Nature never fails when inspiration is involved, but we hope these images inspire you and make you add such an experience to your bucket list.
