Our first Lighting Hero of the New Year is a person that has made a huge contribution to the lighting industry, not only in the USA where he is based but internationally where his reach, respect, and influence is wide, today’s lighting hero is Maryland-based Mark DeVries.
We look up to Mark and not only because he is usually the tallest person in the room! He is the Founder of Baltimore-based Inter-lux which introduces and supports European brands to market in the US, they assist the brands through the whole technical UL/ETL accreditation process and handle any technical modifications for the American market including in-house manufacturing and tailoring.
His knowledge of the American specification market is encyclopedic, his technical knowledge and understanding of lighting are second to none, and he is a master strategist that will pull expertise across states and international borders to ensure that a designer’s design intent is realized and such is the respect that he is held in globally, he can count on many top architects and lighting designers as personal friends.
Mark goes the distance, he puts a capital P in Partner, once you are his friend then you can count on his advice and support whenever needed, Mark is a great mentor, he is honest, charming, affable with humble confidence and bags of charisma, he is a doer, a mover, a shaker and an influencer and if you scroll to image 9 in our gallery, he has Hollywood good guy looks (when shot in soft focus!).
At d-lighting, we respect and realize the importance of key figures within our industry as a whole and the contribution that they make, but moreover, it is not just about ability, which Mark has in abundance, it is about character, humility, what you are and what you stand for and Mark is absolutely top drawer in this regard.
