The Palace of Justice of Lyon is an iconic architecture of the city. It is often found on the postcards of Fourvière Hill.
Designed by architect Louis-Pierre Baltard, in the 19th century, its peristyle of 24 Villebois stone columns rises more than 20 meters high.
How did Jérôme Donna, lighting designer at the Directorate of Public Lighting – DEP – of the city of Lyon work with the architect of the historic building to define the lighting project? Rather than a heritage lighting of the Palace of Justice from the front that would have multiplied the shadows of the columns, the lighting designer comes to the service of the building to restore a more complete image. Jérôme Donna’s proposal is to:
- make sustainable event lighting with the same installation,
- restore white light-based materials to respect the stone,
- integrate the luminaires into the monument so that they are not visible during the day,
- integrate into the general nocturnal plastic of Fourvière Hill.
