As part of a multidisciplinary team, CS Design Inc. developed the lighting design and technical parameters for the architectural lighting of this long-span vehicular bridge. In collaboration with GR7 architects, a number of abstract elements, reminiscent of sails, are illuminated and the main structural underpinning of the bridge is gently highlighted. Additional points of interest such as belvedere lookouts and landscaped approaches are lit, providing a welcoming environment to pedestrian and bicycle users.
The original Île-aux-Tourtes bridge was commissioned in 1965 and links the island of Montreal (village of Senneville) to the Montérégie region (city of Vaudreuil-Dorion). Nearly 87,000 vehicles use the structure every day, of which around 10% are trucks (2019 data).
The Île-aux-Tourtes bridge comprises two parallel reinforced concrete structures totaling 1,962 meters in length and has three lanes in each direction.
The new bridge will include:
– three traffic lanes in each direction;
– a multi-use path;
– Shoulders suitable for use by buses only
