There will be absolutely no argument regarding this weeks Lighting Hero, a legend of our lighting industry, one of the pioneers of our industry and an absolute gem of a man, this week’s lighting hero is Mark Major of Speirs & Major.
Mark is a Founder of the UK’s premier lighting design studio and has a body of prestigious work across all genres and across the globe, their work is of such quality that they must have an awards cabinet of huge proportions and who knows, maybe a trophy room, but this is very well deserved and a mark of both the man and the practice.
Mark started Speirs & Major with the late Jonathan Speirs whose influence on lighting will never be forgotten and together they formed a formidable duo that shaped the lighting design industry for others to come, their legacy of amazing projects sets the bar very high.
Moreover, Mark is a great speaker and sharer of knowledge, he supports, mentors and inspires young lighting designers both within his team and within design schools and universities, his TED talk on the responsibilities of lighting designers in the urban environment remains one of our favourites.
In this instance we do not know Mark personally, we have not had that pleasure, but to have been a stalwart of the lighting industry for so long, with so many people speaking so highly of you and with a reputation for being a gentleman as well as a creative genius, you most definitely achieve lighting hero status in our book.
We hope one day to get the chance to sit down with you and talk our shared passion of light, until then you are a lighting hero and we salute you!
