This week’s lighting hero will be an extremely popular choice, he is one of the nicest and most supportive lighting designers that you could ever meet and certainly the wisest, he oozes wisdom, it seeps through his pours and from his very being, for this week’s lighting hero is Linus Lopez.
We are extremely lucky this week as we have spent the whole week hanging out with him at Light Middle East, enjoying his warmth, his smile, and his knowledge and humor, there is always sunshine when Linus enters a room, the illuminance of dozens of beaming faces, such is his charisma and aura it is hard to imagine the world ever raining on Linus.
Linus is an incredible lighting talent and this is probably aided by his compassion, understanding, and search for knowledge; empathy, Linus connects, with people, and with concepts and translates this into meaningful lighting projects.
Linus supports, not just young lighters, but everyone, he has an ear open to friends or designers who need advice or knowledge sharing, he has an arm around your shoulder or an embrace when needed and he is generous with his admiration of worthy endeavors or achievements. Linus was also an inaugural judge and mentor in the fabulous Silhouette Awards, where a young lighting designer gets paired and mentored by an established and experienced lighting professional. We know the enthusiasm, commitment, and passion that Linus brought to the process, not only in his support of Elsa Sawma but in his support of the other mentors.
Linus is a rock star, we sometimes say this of a lighting designer with personality and swagger, but no, Linus IS a rock star! An accomplished musician and songwriter, we expect that he always looks so relaxed from the royalties he is earning on his songwriting skills! His song about the war in Ukraine is genius, find a platform and share it, it needs to be heard, we were moved and we heard it in the back of a taxi stuck in Dubai traffic.
Linus, we value your friendship, and our admiration for you only grows as we get to hang out with you and get to know you better. Linus Lopez, you are a lighting hero and we salute you!
