KARDORFF
The new opera house with its gentle sloping roofs forms a truly unique icon in the Hamburg harbour. The architecture unfolds as a series of accessible levels that emerge from the landscape, creating a three-dimensional public park. The aim is to create a space which welcomes people at all times, not only during opera performances.
KARDORFF is responsible for all interior and exterior lighting as well as extensive daylight studies. The lighting design interacts with the vision for the new opera house, giving warmth and spatial depth to the interior spaces with their textured timber surfaces. The lighting for the exterior areas emphasizes the continuous flow of the building’s curved lines, aids the public occupation of the park landscape and creates a strong nighttime presence from all directions for the opera house.
