Cerro San Cristóbal, located in Almería capital, is within the cone of influence of the International Astronomical Observatory of Calar Alto, which has been an exciting challenge in terms of light limitations. The San Cristóbal hill is within the environment of the Monumental Complex Alcazaba de Almería and its walls, declared of Cultural Interest, and one of the most impressive medieval defensive monumental complexes of Al-Andalus.
We were lucky enough to collaborate with the drafting team of the urbanization project from the execution project phase to the construction management, with the architect Jesús Basterra, and therefore with the possibility of integrating lighting into the architecture of the project.
The lighting project is based on a design with minimal intervention and maximum respect for space through: the use of 2200K color temperatures to reduce the impact on the night sky and biodiversity, low level of glare to preserve the visual experience, special luminaires in tinted concrete, designed to integrate into the environment and resist vandalism, intelligent control system, which allows a progressive shutdown of ornamental elements at times of lower use, while the route lighting remains active, minimize the visual impact of lighting equipment through lighting with a minimum height.
