Qianhai Museum

Lighting Design Brandston Partnership

Qianhai Museum, located on Shenzhen’s prime coastal waterfront, is a landmark cultural institution spanning 126,000 m². Conceived as a “Tree of Civilization and Beacon of the Era,” the design integrates mountain, sea, city, and culture. Its elevated structure creates vibrant, column-free public zones, while eight central cores enable expansive, unobstructed exhibition halls. A 100-meter arch on the fifth floor frames panoramic views of Qianhai Bay, complemented by a rooftop garden that connects nature and architecture.

The façade draws inspiration from traditional multi-eaved roofs, realized through parametric aluminum panels that filter light and air while evoking a luminous seascape. A BIPV curtain wall contributes to the museum’s energy performance, aligned with China’s Three-Star Green Building standard.

Prefabricated construction and smart management systems support efficiency and sustainability. With over 40,000 m² of exhibition space across 26 galleries, the museum’s holistic design blends architecture, landscape, interior, and exhibition into a coherent cultural experience.
