The project is located in the Jiulong Bay of Weihai Economic Zone, facing the sea with the mountains at back. The seaside can be reached by walking 500 meters. As a brand-new masterpiece created by Gemdale in Weihai, the overall image of the building is based on the scene of a whale leaping from the sea, creating a modern fashionable urban living room. Following the design concept of “Museum of Marine Life”, the design scheme strives to arouse people’s attention to the environment and to demonstrate the spirit of the times in harmony with nature.
The building resembles a whale leaping from the sea. The blue-gray roof, which symbolizes the ocean and waves, is the tone of the overall design of the building and reveals a unique texture. The zigzag roof is integrated with the surrounding sea area, creating an experience of symbiosis with the natural environment. The lighting design follows the “biological” signs and environmental characteristics, simulating the moonlight to coat the whales with layers of scales under cover of darkness, and the flickering light on water ripples. With the moonlight falling on the landscape lake, the architecture and nature are integrated with each other. It presents a vivid picture of the sparkling waves brought by a leaping whale flowing on the skin of the architectural. The bionic and natural atmosphere is expressed in a new and intuitive way.
The “whale fin” is composed of triangular aluminum panels with double-sided patterns and hollow texture. The lighting fixtures are hidden in the interlayer between the inner panel and the skin. The light washes the interlayer semi-transparent Carlot back panel, which allows soft light to get through the perforated pattern. At the same time, the dynamic lighting can be seen from indoor space because of the semi-transparent material of the interlayer. The lighting is programmed through on-site animation, and the effect resembles the wave reflected by the moonlight on the water. The dynamic lighting effect makes the building more vibrant at night.
